Famitsu this week reveals Kingdom Hearts: Unchained Chi for smartphones. Due out as a free download later this year, the game is a port of the PC browser game Kingdom Hearts Chi with new systems made for smartphones. It will feature item-based micro-transactions.

AOTF: The recent announcement of Disney Infinity 3.0 adding Star Wars got us thinking how it would be awesome if Jedi and the like were added to Kingdom Hearts 3 as well. In previous Kingdom Hearts games, Sora and company would visit different worlds from numerous Disney locations. They were all represented as different planets and the level design was excellent because of the variety of worlds that were included.

Actiontrip: I know Im known as the CE Queen right now, but years ago, I was the JRPG Queen. Zippers. Big swords. Airships. Spikey hair. Protagonists with severe memory loss. I was all over every single one of them. Somewhere down the line, probably around the time when Arc Rise Fantasia released (God, I shudder to remember that JRPG), I fell out of the JRPG loop. I turned toward shooters, action games, and western RPGs such as Mass Effect, Dragon Age, and The Witcher. The only JRPGs that have graced my consoles in quite sometime have been of the Final Fantasy nature or Kingdom Hearts remasters. Theres definitely more to the JRPG world than Final Fantasy, as much as I have a love/hate relationship with it.

Jason is still not entirely sure how this series managed to become a reality. Before 2002, if you were to ask anyone what franchises they thought should do a crossover, no one wouldve said Final Fantasy and Disney. Turns out neither would Square, as the concept was loosely strung together in an unplanned meeting between Shinji Hashimoto, Hironobu Sakaguchi, and Tetsuya Nomura. In fact, the initial announcement was so shockingly offbeat that several people thought it was a late April Fools joke. Despite the games contrived beginnings, Kingdom Hearts was met with both critical and commercial acclaim, leading to the beloved (albeit frustrating) franchise we know today.
